We’ve had a busy few months! In April and May, we held two more Steering Committee Meetings at Presso Cafe, 4024 Hastings Street in Burnaby, as well as organized two more Invasive Plant Pulls at the north end of Gilmore Avenue where it intersects the Trans Canada Trail. You can find out the details for all future events on our website under “Upcoming Events” with the latest event at the top of the page.
An update on work on the Trans Canada Trail: we are thrilled to see native plants, like Salmonberry, Pacific Crab Apple, Osoberry, Thimble Berry, Baldhip Rose and Western Lily of the Valley now thriving at the site of our invasive plant pulls. Native trailing Blackberry is making a comeback in the area we cleared of Ivy infestation.
We have exciting news! We have started to produce our mascot, The Pacific Wren, in a sterling silver pendant, with a choice of a beautiful 20″ cable link or an 18″ box link chain, both sterling silver as well. These were designed in Burnaby and manufactured in Vancouver by the fabulous Kingdom Fine Jewelry located at 2956 Granville Street. (Photo shown below).
We will be selling these as fundraisers for WON Society. They’re hand-crafted here in Vancouver and Burnaby. At Kingdom Fine Jewelry, they would normally retail for $295.00, but we are making them available for members, fans and followers of WON Society, for only $245.00. These are substantial and beautiful! The best part is 100% of the sale will go to Wildscaping Our Neighbourhood Society to protect and promote biodiversity.
So, if you are interested in buying one, message me at wonsocietyhq@gmail.com and we will arrange to get one to you.
On June 7, 2025, we had a display booth at Burnaby “Hats Off Day” which was a success and it attracted a lot of interest for our Society. We spoke to numerous people and received a lot of encouragement and kudos for our work promoting and protecting biodiversity in Burnaby Heights.
Our mascot sterling silver Pacific Wren pendant was a hit as well in its debut as a fundraiser. With all materials and labour being donated, with special thanks to Kingdom Fine Jewelry, who manufactured the pendant. We sold half of our stock and raised $490.00 for WON Society. We also received some cash donations, so thanks to all who helped us out.
