I am pleased to announce that the City of Burnaby has agreed to help us find a way to create a biodiversity park on vacant city-owned property in the buffer zone adjacent to Parkland’s tank farm. This happened after my meeting with Burnaby Mayor, Mike Hurley, and staff from the Parks Planning Department last month. They have proposed that this be adapted from their trial community garden program. What that means is that it will be up to us to plan, raise funds, create and maintain what they are calling a “pollinator garden”.

We are off to a good start! We had our first meeting on January 4th to form a Steering Committee to plan how to build a biodiversity park in the 4100 block on the north side of Yale Street.

We had our second Steering Committee meeting on January 18th at Waves Coffee House, 4204 Hastings Street, Burnaby.

Exciting developments – our Steering Committee is making real progress in building our organization toward our initial goal of building a park for birds, bees and butterflies in the 4100 block of Yale Street.

Help us do something important for our neighbourhood and our planet. We would like to reverse the trend of habitat destruction to one of habitat creation and we need your help. Contact me through our Contact page and you can join us in our efforts of promoting and protecting biodiversity in our neighbourhood.

We want to make an impact, so that requires we take our efforts seriously. We are currently developing a website, opening a bank account, researching funding options and have set a date for our next invasive plant pull:
